The P-47D Thunderbolt, one of the most famous aircraft of World War II, was an excellent single-seat fighter plane that was effective both for high-altitude bomber escorts and low-level ground attacks. The P-47D featured a turbocharger and was deployed on both the European and Pacific fronts. To address the visibility issues of earlier models, later Thunderbolt versions were equipped with a clear canopy, leading to the creation of the “Bubbletop.” Seagull Models has revived this nostalgic aircraft with an authentic P-47 Thunderbolt in a 1/7 sport scale, as colorful as its name “Tarheel Hal.”
The Tarheel Hal is one of the most replicated aircraft in the model airplane, diecast model, and remote-control airplane genres. However, amidst all the hype, the story behind its name or the origin of the distinctive paint scheme is hard to pin down. As with all Seagull Models Warbirds, the attention to detail is evident, and the craftsmanship ensures that any intermediate modeler will enjoy building and flying this faithful replica of a bygone warrior.
The kit is entirely made of balsa wood with many pre-formed plastic parts to enhance the authenticity of the appearance. High-quality fittings and slotted flaps provide functionality and scale accuracy, with control horns hidden internally to maintain the scale appearance.
