The P-47D Thunderbolt, one of the most famous aircraft of World War II, was an excellent single-seat fighter plane that was effective both for high-altitude bomber escorts and low-level ground attacks. The P-47D featured a turbocharger and was deployed on both the European and Pacific fronts. To address the visibility issues of earlier models, later Thunderbolt versions were equipped with a clear canopy, leading to the creation of the “Bubbletop.” Seagull Models has revived this nostalgic aircraft with an authentic P-47 Thunderbolt in a 1/7 sport scale, as colorful as its name “Tarheel Hal.”

The Tarheel Hal is one of the most replicated aircraft in the model airplane, diecast model, and remote-control airplane genres. However, amidst all the hype, the story behind its name or the origin of the distinctive paint scheme is hard to pin down.
