The Avios Tundra series of STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) RC foam planes has been highly popular, starting with the 1300mm Tundra, followed by the larger 1700mm Grand Tundra, and then the Grand Tundra Plus with improved wing servo connectors.
The new 1700mm Grand Tundra 2 (GT2), from Hobbyking, is the latest evolution, featuring several upgrades based on customer feedback. It now comes standard with a 6S setup (a 4S setup is still possible with a different propeller). Key enhancements include a redesigned and strengthened tail wheel, pneumatic rubber tires on the main Tundra wheels, a removable plywood battery tray, hex-head screws, and a more efficient 15x8 propeller. It boasts a new striking green and silver color scheme.
The GT2 maintains its strong STOL performance with huge 90-degree flaps and wing vortex generators. A notable addition is a switch unit for the twin LED landing lights, allowing pilots to turn them on, off, or flash them using a separate radio channel. The plane is a "Plug N Fly" model constructed of durable EPO foam, supplied with a powerful SK3 5055-500KV brushless motor and an Aerostar RVS G2 80A ESC, which features an instantaneous reverse function. This reverse thrust is ideal for very short landings and for maneuvering on water when using the optional floats set. The plane offers a wide flight envelope, making it capable of both slow flight and fast aerobatics.
