The Legacy of the F2G Super Corsair in Air Racing:

The Goodyear F2G "Super" Corsair was specifically engineered by Goodyear Aircraft Company as a low-altitude fighter, evolving from the original FG-1/F4U-1 Corsair design. The aircraft registered as NX5588N fell into disrepair over time before being discovered and acquired by Bob Odegaard in 1995. His company, Odegaard Aviation, meticulously restored it to flying condition, with its first flight in 1999 after a 50-year hiatus. Today, Race 57 LLC owns and operates this rare and beautifully restored Goodyear F2G-1D "Super" Corsair (BuNo 88458). A winner at the 1999 Rolls-Royce Aviation Heritage International, it's a consistent competitor in the Unlimited Class at the Reno National Championship Air Races and was also featured in the film "Thunder Over Reno."
